Toba
Toba is an extensible application for dealing with the small data problem. It lets users
- Store small bits of information
- Search for information using a sophisticated keyword search mechanism
- Organize information into "binders"
- Generate reports (with supporting plugins) to summarize information
- Create search folders (called VBinders) which lets users specify a query. The folders automatically update as the user uses the system so that the correct information is always displayed.
- Interact with the system using either the graphical user interface or a built in command line interface.
But the real power in Toba comes from its extensibility. Programmers can use the Samosir library to write custom plugins to handle almost any type of small data or even write custom applications that get embedded within Toba itself.
So given the right plugins, Toba could become a project management application. With another set of plugins, Toba could become a contact manager/business opportunity application. With another set of plugins, it could become a programmer's or mathematicians toolbox and issue tracker.
Toba is released under the GPL license so you can use it for free.
The underlying library, Samosir, is released using the LGPL license so you can also write proprietary plugins (as long as your changes to the library itself are released back for everyone to user).
