JASE stands for "Just A Search Engine" and that's what it is. The JASE plugin allows the user to take a set of text document and create an auxillary engine that can be searched. The engine could be searched. For example, if you downloaded wikipedia and created a text file for each entry, you could then create a JASE engine from the text files and have an offline searchable encyclopedia to search.
The JASE plugin will handle multiple auxillary search engines at one time. JASE also installs features into Toba that let's one create an engine right from the application itself. JASE uses Lucene as the underlying search engine.
